Annual 'Wright At Home' Event To Feature Stories of Bishop Milton Wright

On Sunday April 23rd, Dayton History will once again open the doors to Hawthorne Hill. The large house in Oakwood was once home to the Wright brothers. The annual Wright at Home open house will allow visitors to step back in time and live the history of Dayton’s most famous family.

 

Prominently featured at this year’s event will be stories about the Wright brothers' father, Bishop Milton Wright, who died nearly 100 years ago.  

On a recent visit to Hawthorn Hill we spoke with Stephen Wright - the great-grand nephew of Orville and Wilbur Wright. We toured the house, learned a bit about the Bishop's life, and his influence on his two famous sons.

Stephen Wright, the great grand-nephew of Orville and Wilbur Wright will be one of the presenters at this year’s Wright at Home event from Dayton History and the Oakwood Historical Society. It’s Sunday, April 23rd, from 12 to 5pm.  The event sold out last year. Jerry began volunteering at WYSO in 1991 and hosting Sunday night's Alpha Rhythms in 1992. He joined the YSO staff in 2007 as Morning Edition Host, then All Things Considered. He's hosted Sunday morning's WYSO Weekend since 2008 and produced several radio dramas and specials . In 2009 Jerry received the Best Feature award from Public Radio News Directors Inc., and was named the 2023 winner of the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors Best Anchor/News Host award. His current, heart-felt projects include the occasional series Bulletin Board Diaries, which focuses on local, old-school advertisers and small business owners. He has also returned as the co-host Alpha Rhythms.
