Montgomery County is making $5,000,000 in CARES Act money available to homeowners who have missed payments because of the pandemic.

Julie Deacon at the Homeownership Center says her organization is partnering with Montgomery County to distribute five million dollars in CARES Act money.

"It’s a much needed resource at this point," she says. "So many people have experienced some sort of job loss or income loss due to COVID-19."

Homeowners who are eligible may receive up to $10,000 to make their account current.

Deacon says the Homeownership Center has received over 200 applications so far, but they're seeking more.

They hope to help 800 to 1,000 families.

To be eligible, homeowners must live in Montgomery County and have a mortgage that started out at $300,000 or less. They also need to have missed a payment or gone into default or forbearance during the pandemic.
