Beginning Monday, Dayton Public Schools high school students will be eligible for free, direct RTA bus service to school. The dedicated Greater Dayton RTA buses are the second phase of DPS’s recently approved multimillion dollar high school busing plan aimed at improving student attendance.
More than four dozen new limited-service or “LS” buses will operate in designated neighborhoods and transport students to and from six high schools: Belmont, Dunbar, Meadowdale, Ponitz Career Technology Center, Stivers and Thurgood Marshall.

Jessica Olson with Greater Dayton RTA says DPS contracted with the RTA as part of an effort to make it easier for many district students to get to class.
“So we are taking out a lot of those extraneous stops that had nothing to do with school service and making it a lot simpler, a lot shorter and a lot faster to get to school,” Olson says.
Under the new program, Olson says DPS students will no longer be able to ride regular RTA buses for free.
The LS buses are scheduled to operate from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and then again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Students will need to show their student ID to ride.
