Organizers of a weekend protest are calling on 10th District Republican Congressman Mike Turner to hold an official constituent town hall. Activists held their own so-called “Where’s Mike” town hall on Saturday at a Dayton school.
Turner, who was in Washington, didn’t attend the event, which organizers say attracted more than 200 people. Turner's office didn't immediately respond to requests for comment Monday about the town hall.
The event was hosted by a coalition that included the Miami Valley Progressive Caucus, the Yellow Springs Political Action Group, Resistance Ohio and a group called Dayton Indivisible For All.
Davin Flateau, from Dayton Indivisible For All, says the large crowd reflects people’s desire to hear from Turner and their other elected representatives about health care, immigration and other controversial issues being proposed by the Trump administration.
“There is a huge outcry for some kind of responsibility to be taken by our representatives. And that includes house members, congressmen and at the state level as well,” he says.
Congressman Turner recently released a statement questioning the identity of one of the event’s organizers.
Flateau called the allegations false. Dayton Indivisible for All is demanding a public apology.
