Wilberforce University, the oldest private black university in the country, announced today that the show-cause order issued against them last year and threatened its accreditation has been removed.

Last June, the Higher Learning Commission issued the show-cause order alleging the university was out of compliance in several areas including its academic programs, finances and facilities.

Then Wilberforce presented a 3,000-plus page document to the commission in December detailing plans to fix the problems listed in the show-cause order.

The HLC released a statement Friday morning indicating that Wilberforce is now in compliance with all of the requirements it was scheduled to meet.

Wilberforce President Dr. Algeania Freeman says she’s pleased the HLC lifted the show cause order. She issued a statement calling it a, “brand new day at Wilberforce” and said the school will continue to sustain their stabilization efforts.
