Ohio Unemployment Rate Drops To 4.8 Percent In December

Ohio's unemployment rate has dropped to 4.8 percent, its lowest since September 2001 and the fourth consecutive monthly decrease.
The state's Department of Job and Family Services said Friday that Ohio had 278,000 unemployed workers in December. That's down 9,000 compared with November. The number of unemployed workers has dropped by 133,000 in the past year.
The latest Ohio data shows employment gains in industries that include leisure and hospitality, and professional and business services. Those increases surpassed losses in sectors that include trade, transportation and utilities.
Ohio's unemployment rate has remained below the nation's, which was 5.6 percent in December. Ohio's rate was 5 percent in November, down from 5.3 percent in October.
The state's unemployment rate for December 2013 was 7.1 percent.
