Kasich Honors Ohio Firefighers

The governor honored Ohio firefighters killed in the line of duty one day after the nation remembered first responders who died in the 9/11 terror attacks a decade ago.

Gov. John Kasich took part in a wreath-laying for fallen Ohio firefighters Monday in the courtyard at the state fire marshal's office in suburban Columbus.

The fire marshal's office says five Ohio firefighters were killed on the job over the last year. Their service was celebrated later on Monday in a second ceremony that also honored this year's civilian and firefighter recipients of awards given for brave acts that saved lives.

Fire Marshal Larry Flowers says in a statement that the honored citizens define heroism while the firefighters given awards exemplify the best of Ohio fire service.
