Governor Kasich's Thoughts on Teacher Standards and Merit Pay

Governor John Kasich says Ohio must develop standards for teachers and use merit pay as a way to reward teachers who are doing good things. But he says he would really like those policies to come from teachers and education leaders.

"This is not some sort of a political fig leaf or some sort of contrived political operation. We want our teachers to be evaluated. We want it to be fair. We want it to be peer to peer. As far as I'm concerned, I can keep my hands off this thing as long as they deliver a good report. Now I've got a few tweaks here. I am the Governor," says Kasich

Kasich says teacher standards are the key way to make sure good educators are rewarded. Kasich made his comments to a small group of teachers in Ashland Tuesday.
