Report from Democractic Headquarters

Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles is at Democratic headquarters tonight. She said the mood is cautiously optimistic.

"We have people straggling in right now, not a great crowd yet. Usually people don't get here until around 9:30 or 10 o' clock. Most folks who are here say they are cautiously optimistic. They think it's going to be a good night for the democrats regardless of what we keep hearing from the pundits nationwide.

I think there is a consensus that Lee Fisher has probably lost the U.S. Senate race, although he has not conceded yet - he's expected to do that any moment now.

One interesting thing I found out earlier today, you might remember that the Cuyahoga County head of elections bureau, James Patton had trended the voter projection downward by about 20,000 votes. I talked with Ohio Democratic Party Chief Chris Redfern a few minutes ago and he said at that point the democratic ground forces were immediately dispatched to Cuyahoga County and he says they ended up where they needed to be at the end of the night, and he said he's cautiously optimistic. He thinks its gonna be a good night for the democrats."
