"As He Saw Us", Portraits of Villagers by Alan Macbeth and "The Remembering Show". The Yellow Springs Arts Council and the Yellow Springs Arts & Cultural Commission are honoring those who have work in the Y.S.Arts Council Permanent Collection who have passed away and as a memorial to Alan Macbeth who died earlier this year. Alan Macbeth, besides the scope of his portraiture, was the artist/builder of the Oten Art Gallery at 309 Xenia Ave., in Yellow Springs. It was built over a 40 year process by adding 1 arch after another, all made of brick and stone. The last aspect, was the turtle lying serenely on an arch over the door. In the rear and front of the beautiful building, Alan planted two vast gardens of plants, stones, fish ponds and water falls. In the front garden all of this beauty is peeking at you through the open arches, as you walk the sidewalk, to invite you in, and an entirely new perspective, well thought out by the artist and builder, Alan Macbeth. What a legacy he left to Yellow Springs.
