WYSO is planning a series of commentaries in the coming weeks from local professors and leaders in the black community, in honor of Black History Month in February. To kick it off, Antioch College Associate Professor of Performance Gabrielle Civil is on air Friday morning, Jan. 30, to preview upcoming events at Antioch College.

Civil is holding a story circle in collaboration with Coretta Scott King Center director Mila Cooper. Details provided by Antioch College are below; information about other events will be added as they become available.

This Friday Forum will be a dynamic collaboration with the Performance Program, following the

successful "Contrasts &/or" Storytelling event last term. On Friday, Jan 30, we will have a People's State of the Union Story Circle in the Coretta Scott King Center at 7 PM in collaboration with the US Department of Arts & Culture.http://peoplesstateoftheunion.usdac.us/

At this interactive event, hosts Gabrielle Civil & Mila Cooper, along with other facilitators will open the space for members of the Antioch community to reflect on the current state of our union. Community members will share stories in response to three prompts: Tell a story about a moment you felt true belonging—or the opposite—in this country or in your community. Describe an experience that showed you something new

or important about the state of our union. Share about a time you stood together with people in your community.

Stories will be told in small groups and we will end with a collective sharing and (possible spontaneous open mike). This Story Circle will be one of more than 100 circles happening on this theme during the week of Jan 23-30. All Welcome!
