WXPN's All About the Music Festival
From the funky New Orleans soul of Allen Toussaint to the harrowing acoustic rock of My Morning Jacket's Jim James, a wide variety of exciting sounds emanated from WXPN's annual All About the Music Festival July 21-23. The event, performed on several stages by the Delaware River in Camden, N.J., spawned many memorable performances, several of which will be highlighted in this special edition of World Cafe.
Alejandro Escovedo and his band — which included the work of a remarkable string section — performed a cross section of old and new material, while fans of My Morning Jacket got to see singer Jim James strip his band's music to its acoustic essence. We'll hear both of those artists recorded live, as well as music by Brandi Carlile, Grace Potter and Toussaint.
