Peacekeepers coming to Springfield

The city of Springfield is partnering with a national peacekeeping group that specializes in training community members on how to work with police to keep their streets safe.

Springfield is using a program called the Peacekeepers  Global Initiative to make unstable neighborhoods safer by deterring crime and violence.

Peacekeepers was founded by Columbus native Dennis Muhammad and stems from the Islamic faith. The idea is to bring in men from the community to make the streets safe for women, children and seniors.

Tech II Incorporated Set to Expand in Springfield

A manufacturing company in Springfield has been approved for $800,000 in state funding to add a new facility. The Ohio Job Creation Credit Tax Loan will bring new jobs and $2.7 5 million of investment money to the city.

Springfield Township Trustee Ousted

The Springfield News Sun is reporting that Springfield Township voters have ousted longtime fiscal officer, Herb Greer, who has been under fire lately for bookkeeping errors.

Newcomer Mike Hively defeated Greer on Tuesday in unofficial results by a count of 52% to 48%.  Pressure to unseat Greer began building in late September after township trustees learned he failed to pay the lease on the township's administrative building.  The error forced the township to pay more than $124,00.
