Education Choice Week in Ohio

This week is “National School Choice Week,” and around the country more than 3500 events are planned over the next several days.  

Dozens of events aimed at raising awareness around School Choice are taking place in Ohio, and the Miami Valley.  Events in Middletown, Troy, Oakwood, Springfield, and last night in Dayton, an event organized by Parents Advancing Choice in Education, or PACE.  Program Manager Daria Dillard-Stone says its purpose was to highlight the need to expand educational options for students, and to ask some simple questions.

Applications Trail Available Ohio School Vouchers

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio has received far fewer applications than the number of vouchers available for transferring students to private schools from poor-performing public ones.

Although 30,000 vouchers were offered, The Columbus Dispatch reports only more than 17,000 requests for vouchers were turned in by this past Monday's deadline. A provision in the state budget signed at the end of June offered a 16,000 voucher increase of the private school scholarships.
