There were one thousand and 80 people killed on Ohio’s roads last year.  That was more than in 2009 when a record low number of people died as a result of roadway accidents.  One thousand twenty two were killed that year. 

Ohio is on track to set a new modern day record this year.  The fatality count on the state’s roads right now is below one thousand.  The Ohio State Highway Patrol wants to keep those numbers low.  So it’s going to have troopers on the roads, looking for unsafe driving. 

Central and Southern Ohio led the state in the number of felony arrests made from traffic stops.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that ,079 felony stops were made between January and July of this year.

Franklin County led the state with 171 arrests, followed by Scioto County with 109, Lorain County with 70 and Jackson and Lucas Counties with 65 each.

According to the Highway Patrol, 74% of the arrests comes from a trooper "looking beyond the license plate" to spot criminal activity, such as evidence of drug use.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The State Highway Patrol says most Ohio counties have seen a drop in crash deaths so far this year compared to this point in 2010.

A map posted on the patrol's website shows that 50 of 88 counties in Ohio saw at least one fewer fatality by Aug. 8 than during the same period last year. Thirteen counties have seen no change, while 25 have had more traffic deaths.

Cuyahoga County has seen the biggest decline. The patrol says the county that includes Cleveland has had 19 fewer fatalities than during the first seven months or so of 2010.
