Soldiers From Ohio Killed in Afghan Attack

Government officials say three U.S. soldiers killed in this week in Afghanistan were from Ohio, as were several others seriously wounded in the bombing.

The Department of Defense has identified the soldiers as: 36-year-old Capt. Nicholas J. Rozanski of Dublin; 45-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey. Rieck of Columbus; and 44-year-old Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Hannon of Grove City.

Beavercreek Native First Female 4-star General in Air Force

An Ohio native has been confirmed as the next commander of the Air Force Materiel Command, making her the first woman to become a four-star general in the Air Force.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the U.S. Senate confirmed Lt. Gen. Janet Wolfenbarger this week to lead the command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. She was nominated by President Barack Obama in February.

Air Force to Hold Ohio Memorial for Military Dog

A memorial service in southwest Ohio will honor an Air Force dog that died earlier this month after a military career, which included serving in the Iraq War and helping federal authorities with more than 500 arrests.

Nisan's (NEE'-sunz) memorial service with military honors is planned Friday afternoon at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he had been assigned since 2003.

The 10-year-old German Shepherd also worked with the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agencies and was credited with helping track down about 20 pounds of narcotics.
