DDN: Home Price Sales Rise

Diana Parkhouse

A report focusing on single-family home and condo sales indicates Dayton Home prices grew rapidly in the last four months.  According to Clear Capital’s quarterly Home Data Index, local home prices rose by 6.3 percent.  Only Phoenix Arizona saw a higher climb in home prices.

Today’s Dayton Daily News reports that other metro areas in Ohio, like Cincinnati and Middletown saw prices fall by as much as 1.3 percent.  The News’ report indicates the Dayton housing market has possibly seen home prices increase at a faster rate partly because of the severity of initial housing downturn in the area.

Commenting for the report, Alex Villacorta, Clear Capital’s director of research and analytics said “Home prices in Dayton are down 40 percent from a peak in early 2005.”

Ohio Home Sales See June Jump

Ohio home sales jumped about 10 percent in June compared to May, even as the nation's housing market continued its worst showing since the housing bust.

The Ohio Association of Realtors said Wednesday that just over 10,000 new and existing single-family homes and condos were sold in the state last month.

President Meg Hudson says the association is optimistic that the Ohio market is poised to stabilize following a tumultuous past few years.

June's average home sale price in Ohio was over 142 thousand dollars which is a 7.5 percent increase over the May average.

The National Association of Realtors reported Wednesday that sales of previously occupied homes nationwide fell 0.8 percent in June, the third straight month of declining sales.
