Legionnaires' Outbreak in Ohio Prompts Lawsuits

An outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at a southwestern Ohio hospital a year ago has led to four lawsuits
filed in the past two months.

The outbreak at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton sickened 11 patients.

The Dayton Daily News says the new lawsuits against the hospital involve several people who contracted the disease and the families of four others reported to have the illness before they died.

The potentially deadly form of pneumonia is caused by bacteria in water. The hospital determined the cause of the outbreak was a temperature limit on heating the hot water in a 12-story addition to the facility. The hospital later raised the heating temperature.
