Central State University in Southwestern Ohio is marking its 125th Anniversary as it looks for a new president.

The historically black school in Wilberforce plans to celebrate the anniversary with a ceremonial gathering Tuesday.  The Dayton Daily News reports the school of more than 2,500 students is the only predominately black institution in Ohio.

It's looking for new leadership because alumnus and school President John Garland plans to retire in June.  He has led the school since 1997.

A federal appeals court is weighing whether a Knoxville student should have been allowed to read and discuss Bible passages during recess.

A three-judge panel from the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati on Wednesday took up the case brought by Samuel and Tina Whitson, who sued Knox County Schools in 2008. The Whitsons claim that Karns Elementary School Principal Cathy Summa infringed on the rights of Luke Whitson by telling him he could no longer hold Bible study on the playground.

Columbus schools are using a collection agency to help them recover delinquent lunch payments totaling
roughly $900,000.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the schools are owed lunch money for nearly 6,000 students. Accounts that owe more than $50 for lunches since 2009 will be turned over for collection late next month.

Most families owe just a few dollars. About 10 percent of the families that owe lunch money account for about 80 percent of the total owed, and that's the group that's being targeted.

The system of evaluating progress in Ohio schools would change significantly under a plan the state will submit as it seeks a waiver to the federal No Child Left Behind requirements.
