Removal of Ohio Election Officials Recommended

A state hearing officer is recommending two Democrats be removed from the Montgomery County Board of Elections after they had moved to create extra voting hours on the weekends.

Secretary of State Jon Husted initially suspended Thomas Ritchie Sr. and Dennis Lieberman from their positions on the Board of Elections, then temporarily lifted his suspension last week so the board could continue its work.

Husted, a Republican, has ordered election boards in Ohio's 88 counties to have the same early in-person voting hours on weekdays and have no hours on weekends.

Clark County Board of Elections has a new director

SPRINGFIELD - The Clark County Board of Elections has named a new director. 30-year-old Matthew Tlachac will be replacing Mark Oster, who is retiring in August.

In a 3-1 vote, the Clark County Board of elections selected Tlachac from a field of 10 finalists for the director's position. Mark Oster, the current director, announced his retirement three weeks ago. Since he is a Democrat, the board was forced to find another Democrat to replace him.

Oster says that politics did not play a role in his decision to retire. But he felt the timing was right to step down.
