A recent listener called in and said, “What could be better
than a nice Sunday morning, a hot cup of coffee, and listening to bluegrass
gospel music on the radio?” Rise When the Rooster Crows aims to provide at
least the last third of that prescription as it provides bluegrass and old-time
gospel music every Sunday morning from 6-8 am.
Since 1972, WYSO has been providing bluegrass music during
Rise When the Rooster Crows to greater Dayton, Ohio
bluegrass listeners. Dayton,
Ohio, and the WYSO listening area, has
always been a “hotbed” of bluegrass music, due largely to the number of
Appalachian families who migrated to this area’s industrial employment and
brought their music with them.
Tune in early on Sundays as Rise When the Rooster Crows
continues this tradition with gospel offerings from the likes of Bill Monroe
and the Stanley Brothers. You’ll also hear Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Ricky
Skaggs, IIIrd Tyme Out and some great a cappella offerings. We also announce local
events when submitted in writing in advance.
Your local hosts are committed to providing excellent
bluegrass gospel music during Rise When the Rooster Crows. We’re proud to be a
part of "Public Radio for the Miami
Valley" and encourage you to
listen and support the programming we provide.
