Also, he brings us up to speed on what's happening with early voting today.

NPR's Senior Washington Editor, Ron Elving, was the guest on PoliticsOhio last week, covering the Republican National Convention. Emily McCord has him as her guest again this week, to discuss Ohio's place at the Democratic National Convention. Elving says they need Ohio, too, and showed it this week. Also, he reports on former Governor Ted Strickland's speech.

Emily McCord speaks to NPR's Senior Washington Editor Ron Elving. He's been covering the convention in Tampa, Florida and says Ohio is getting attention like no other state from the GOP. Elving tells McCord that Ohio's improving economy has implications for the upcoming election and that he's seen consistent enthusiasm from the delegates.

The rules surrounding Ohio’s Early voting has been front and center this week, after two Democratic Montgomery County Elections officials were suspended after they violated the directorate by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted that all Ohio’s 88 counties follow the same voting hours, with no mention of weekend hours.

Republicans say the extended hours creates problems for some Board of Elections in the state. Democrats say this will disenfranchise voters and could cause long lines at the polls.

President Obama visited the battleground state again this week, his 9th visit this year. Emily McCord speaks to Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina to discuss the current state of the campaign in Ohio, the negative nature of TV ads and the campaign's fundraising strategy.
