Weekdays, 10am -1pm

Like the name suggests, Excursions is a daily journey across musical genres and eras.  Niki Dakota guides listeners through a broad cross-section of the newest music from Ohio, around the world, and everything in between while also spending time with beloved classic tunes.  Each day is an adventure and on Wednesdays, you'll hear the fresh tunes from great artists new and old during the noon hour.  Play for fun and prizes on Thursday Threads, and you can put a song on the playlist every Friday when we spin theme tunes.

Tecumseh Land Trust Prepares for Annual Auction

Tecumseh Land Trust is devoted to helping land owners protect and preserve their farms and nature lands.  Executive Director Krista Magaw joins Niki Dakota in the studio to talk about their mission and the upcoming silent auction that will benefit Tecumseh Land Trust's efforts. 

The 8th Annual Tecumseh Land Trust Harvest Auction is September 21st at the Hollenbeck Bayley Center in Springfield.

Pop Wagner Live on Excursions

Like his brother Bodie, Pop Wagner's musical roots were influenced by his time in Yellow Springs.  He continues to collaborate with many noted players in the folk and traditional music community, traveling across the United States and the world performing.  Pop Wagner visited the new WYSO studios to perform live and chat with Music Director Niki Dakota about his local musical roots, the early days of Prairie Home Companion and his work to celebrate the legacy of Woodie Guthrie.

A Sampling of 90s Reloaded With Epistone and Louie Wood Jr. Live on Excursions

On August 31st, several local bands will pay tribute to a more recently bygone decade of music in the 90s Reloaded show.  One of those bands, Epistone, visited the WYSO studios to give listeners a sample of what they can experience at Canal Street Tavern during 90s Reloaded with a live set in the WYSO studios.  Promoter and DJ Louie Wood Jr. also joined Niki Dakota in the studio to talk about the origins of the event and share his favorite 90s songs.

Rabbit Hash String Band Live on Excursions

Named for Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, the hometown of their founder, the Rabbit Hash String Band is a four-piece string and vocal band.  They visited the WYSO studios for a live performance and to chat with Niki Dakota about their music and their namesake community.

Customer Service and the Gem City Horns Live on Excursions

As self-professed music nerds, the eight members of Customer Service and the Gem City Horns (including former WYSO intern Mike Jones) formed the band for an ArtStreet project at the University of Dayton.  The band visited the WYSO studios to perform live, and spoke with Niki Dakota about forming the band, preparing to record an album and upcoming performances.

Customer Service and the Gem City Horns will perform at the Downtown Dayton Revival Music Festival, September 8 and 9 in downtown Dayton.
