Conrad's Corner

Weekdays, 7:59pm and Saturdays

Conrad reads a poem Monday to Friday at 7:59 p.m. and another on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. He and Niki Dakota do a brief "Song and Sonnet" exercise on Wednesday’s Excursions at 12:40 p.m. He stays in touch with many talented local poets, includes their poems in his regular readings, and does an interview with one of them for some of the WYSO Weekend shows.

Conrad & Evelyn

Credit Aileen LeBlanc

Conrad's Corner host Conrad Balliet and his square dancing partner Evelyn fell in love in later life. She was in her eighties and he in his 70s. Their love was youthful, adventurous and amorous. But then Evelyn started getting simple words mixed up. Conrad saw the signs. He took care of her as he was losing her to Alzheimer's. Aileen LeBlanc tells a very personal story of her friends Conrad and Evelyn.

Here's an audio slide show of Conrad and Evelyn's time together featuring Conrad reading a poem by Roy Croft.
