Antioch Voices is the voice of the Antioch University community across the country. It's an ever-changing showcase for students, faculty and alumni who are the living embodiment of Antioch University's principles.

Chancellor Toni Murdock on Antioch University and Higher Education

Antioch University Chancellor Toni Murdock

In 1997,  Tullisse (Toni) Murdock was appointed the first female president of an Antioch campus (Seattle), where she served for nine years. She became Antioch's first female chancellor in 2005 and during her tenure the University underwent several major transitions, including its separation from Antioch College. Murdock also oversaw structural changes in the governance of the University, including the establishment of a board of trustees for each of its 5 campuses in four states. On November 3, 2011 Antioch University announced that Murdock is retiring, effective June of 2012.

Here Murdock speaks with WYSO's Emily McCord about her feelings about higher education, the changes that occurred at Antioch University during her tenure and the current state of the University.

Dr. Alan Guskin, former University Chancellor and current Distinguished Professor of Higher Education for the PhD in Leadership and Change Program at Antioch University, Al Guskin, recalls his experience organizing a student group at the University of Michigan that is widely credited with inspiring John F. Kennedy to establish the Peace Corps.

A Redistribution of Resources

Antioch University Seattle's B.J. Bullert interviews Gilda Sheppard, a filmmaker and sociologist, who will be teaching Communication Across Cultures at Antioch University Seattle this winter. Gilda Sheppard is a filmmaker, sociologist and professor who specializes in social justice.

In this interview with Antioch University Seattle's B.J. Bullert, Sheppard reflects on the nature of social justice and how people begin to embrace social justice ideals.

Sheppard currently teaches at Evergreen State College in Tacoma, Washington and will join the adjunct faculty of Antioch University Seattle this winter where she will teach Communication Across Cultures.
