Wittenberg, Clark State Partner To Create Unique Nursing Degree Program

Wittenberg University and Clark State Community College in Springfield are partnering on a nursing degree program.

The collaboration will allow students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and Bachelor of Science in Nursing in four years by taking classes at both schools.

Dala DeWitt is the RN program director at Clark State. She explained that the Nursing Pathway partnership is the only one of its kind in Ohio and will help train more new nurses here.

"There still is a shortage of nurses and Ohio traditionally is a producer state. But a lot of times individuals don't stay in Ohio, they leave," she said. "So this is one way to increase the number of graduates and increase the number of BSN graduates in our area."

DeWitt said that students will be dual-enrolled and spend their first and last year at Wittenberg, and the middle part of their education at Clark State. They’ll be considered full-time residential Wittenberg students for all four years of the program, but will pay Clark State tuition rates while there.

The Ohio Board of Regents and the Higher Learning Commission have officially approved the Nursing Pathway Program and it will begin this fall.
