In Nature wrote the naturalist Donald Culross Peattie,nothing is insignificant, nothing ignoble, nothing sinful, nothing repetitious. All the music is great music, all the lines have meaning.
So far deep into Gemini, I seek out the music. Looking for Deep Summer, I collect and collect more pieces of the season, watching them accumulate, none of them insignificant.
And so I lay them out in my mind, building a daybook on which to place leaves, birdsong, butterflies until all the lines and spaces are filled.
Working with such mixed media, I weave the textures and colors and shapes into patterns which communicate taste and insight, feelings and dreams. In all of those projections, I stir and meld the sense data and combine them to make the world my own
And if external reality, as Einstein asserted, is altered by observation, my watching and shaping are not altogether private matters. Internal space, then, fashions outer space. If I become the season by virtue of my encounter with it, so too the season is transformed by my observing. That is the Deep Summer in which all the music is great music and all the words have meaning.
