The Community Overdose Action Team has issued an alert about the escalating use fentanyl, and similar drugs.

Increased use of the illegally processed synthetic opioid has raised the concerns of county officials even higher. They say a Fentanyl derivative has been found locally that is reported to be 15 times stronger than morphine.

The Community Overdose Action team suggests family members of those at risk of drug overdose or using opioids invest in Naloxone, a life-saving antidote that if administered during an opioid overdose could decrease the chances of death.

Health officials say however, Naloxone is not guaranteed to save the life of an individual who is overdosing. There is a possibility that the antidote will be ineffective or multiple doses will be required.

For more information regarding obtaining and using Naloxone contact Project DAWN, through CrisisCare at 937-224-4646.
