Online Training To Help Those With Autism Begins In Ohio

Officials say an online video-training program for people who interact with autistic individuals is now being used in Ohio.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the state-funded project is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the nation.

An official with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidencesays the program began Wednesday to help families, agency workers and others gain skills needed to support children and young adults with autism.

The $1.2 million program provides a broad range of information and certification and is free to Ohioans. Out-of-state users pay a subscription.

John Martin, director of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, says the training isn't mandatory for disability-services providers. But he expects agencies serving those with autism will want employees to have the certification.
