Dayton Gay Men's Chorus To Perform Harvey Milk Tribute

Sarah Caplan/WYSO

On Saturday, June 7th, 2014, The Dayton Gay Men's Chorus will present the Dayton premiere of an oratorio that reflects the life of Harvey Milk, the first elected openly gay man to hold public office in California. The work, composed by Tony nominated Andrew Lippa, weaves elements of Milk's life, from childhood to his assassination in November of 1978.

I am Harvey Milk is a part choral, part theatrical work featuring the DGMC and solists: Charlie Clark as adult Harvey, soprano Mary Southworth as an amalgam of important women in Milk's life, and Darrin McCormick as young Harvey.

On today's Excurions, WYSO's Niki Dakota spoke with the DGMC's artistic director Kathy Clark, president David Moyer, and actor Charlie Clark.

The performance takes place Saturday, June 7th, 8pm at the Victoria Theatre in Dayton.
