Book Nook: The Making of Donald Trump, by David Cay Johnston

Eighteen years ago when Donald Trump appeared as a guest on this program to publicize his book "Trump: the Art of the Comeback" it was already clear that he was a man with grand ambitions. His aspirations have now taken him to the point where he's one election away from occupying the White House.

David Cay Johnston has been reporting on Donald Trump for decades. Johnston is an investigative journalist who first encountered Trump in the late 1980's. At that time Donald Trump was preparing to open a Trump casino in New Jersey and Johnston was reporting on that venture for The Philadelphia Enquirer.

In his latest book "The Making of Donald Trump" Johnston reveals some of the things that Donald Trump has done over the years. He looks back at Donald Trump's heritage, his career so far, and his influences.

In this interview Johnston, an authority on taxation issues, discusses his theories on why Donald Trump has so far refused to release copies of his tax returns. Donald Trump has run an unorthodox campaign and his refusal to share this information is just another example of his renegade approach to becoming our next president.

Love him or loathe him you surely will agree that Donald Trump is one of the most fascinating and perplexing politicians in recent memory.
