Last week, officials approved an annexation agreement to add 41 acres from Miami Township to the city of Miamisburg. The land is on Miamisburg Springboro Road, just north of Medlar Road. Housing developer Inverness Homes plans to build new residences on the land. According to City of Miamisburg Development Director Chris Fine, the agreement is approved -- not the annexation.
"The annexation itself was not approved," Fine says. "The only thing that was approved was an agreement between the township and the city. That still has a process of its own before the actual annexation is approved."
He says the annexation will likely be filed in the next two to three weeks and the approval process then takes about 90 days. If approved, however, Fine expects to see over 100 new homes. Miami Township Acting Administrator Ron Hess said this would add amenities to the area.
"This is now going to be ability for more residential area inside the city of Miamisburg," Hess says. "Then the city will provide services such as water, sewer, police."
Hess says the agreement includes a property tax sharing deal between the city and township.
"Since these people will not be paying any township taxes -- they’ll only be paying taxes that the city would normally get for any other resident in the city -- we decided that for a period of 15 years, we would split whatever the city would take in, 50/50," Hess says. "But it wouldn’t start until at least 51% of the planned development is in place."
