Job Posting: Full-time Development Director

 

WYSO Public Radio station in Yellow Springs, Ohio seeks a full-time Development Director

 

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt-Salaried

 

SUPERVISOR: General Manager

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, regular business hours. Some weekends and evenings as required for special events and other activities related to fundraising.

 

Position Summary: Works directly with the General Manager to shape and implement long and short term vision and strategy for WYSO revenue raising including but not limited to underwriting, membership, major gifts, long-term giving , development of a “Friends” organization and fundraising events.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise underwriting staff and traffic manager, set monthly and annual goals

  • Oversee membership goals and fundraising strategies; set goals and strategies for all fund-drives. Direct staff to execute drives.

  • Develop a “major gifts” program and act as a liaison to major donors.

  • Develop a “long-term giving” program

  • Develop and supervise a volunteer “Friends” group to engage them in revenue raising and station enhancement activities

  • Plan and execute fundraising events

  • Act as liaison to third-party fund-raising organization during WYSO Capital Campaign

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with various audiences

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge:

Proven experience and knowledge of fundraising strategies including feasibility studies, capital campaigns and various giving programs, including on-line giving, major donors, long-term gifts and “Friends” groups.

 

Experience in public radio fundraising preferred. Knowledge of WYSO programs and public radio programming in general a plus. Demonstrated knowledge working with and adapting integrated software platforms.

 

 

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must possess the desire and ability to be an honest, responsible, enthusiastic, public spokesperson for WYSO.

 

Ability to interact successfully with individuals at all levels of the organization and with external clients, including members, donors, underwriters, granting organizations, etc.

Must possess excellent attention to detail and superior organizational skills.

 

Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple projects while working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Proficiency with Word, Excel, the Internet and electronic email systems required. Possess a proven fundraising track record.

 

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’ s degree in fundraising, marketing business or related field. Three to five years experience in a successful business environment, broadcasting preferred. Experience in a non-profit setting desired. Experience running a Capital Campaign and various donor programs preferred. Experience with creating relationships with local foundations, donors, and proven experience in seeking out grant funding opportunities.
