Miami Twp. Will Not Contract Police Services

According to reports, more than 200 people showed up last night at the Miami Township Board of Trustees meeting in Montgomery County. At issue is the fate of the Miami Twp. Police Department.

The local fraternal order of Police say they were told the township was considering contracting out Police Services to Montgomery County. At last night’s meeting, it appears the Trustees put those fears to rest, saying they never pursued contracting with Montgomery County, and they were focused on securing funding for existing police force.

In Dayton, Handguns Concerns Over Assault Weapons

Authorities in Dayton are more concerned about large-capacity magazines than assault weapons that are the subject of debate in Washington.

Last year there were 27 homicides in Dayton, with handguns the preferred weapon and just one case involving an assault rifle. Most of the handguns had large-capacity magazines.

The sheriff in Montgomery County says it has investigated more homicides involving frying pans in the past three years than assault weapons.

Judge to Hear Arguments in Firing of 2 Ohio Democrats

A federal judge is hearing arguments today in a lawsuit involving two Montgomery County Democratic elections officials who claim they were unjustly fired by Ohio's secretary of state.

Republican Jon Husted fired the two members of the Montgomery County Board of Elections late last month. He said they violated his order that set uniform early voting hours in the state.

Ex-board members Dennis Lieberman and Thomas Ritchie Sr. are suing Husted, saying he wrongfully terminated them after they voted to allow early voting on weekends.

Ohio's Elections Chief Appoints 2 to County Board

Ohio's elections chief given the green light for replacements for two Montgomer county elections officials fired in a dispute over extended voting hours.

Yesterday, Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted has named former Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin and attorney John Doll to serve on the Montgomery County Elections Board.

County Democrats nominated McLin and Doll on Monday to complete the terms of former members Dennis Lieberman and Thomas Ritchie Sr.
