OSU To Participate in Autism Drug Study

Ohio State University is participating in a large clinical research program to determine if an Alzheimer's disease medication can be used to treat children with autism. The Columbus Dispatch reports that children with autism from central Ohio can enroll in the program at OSU's Nisonger Center. The study is evaluating social interaction and communication among autistic children.

Ohio State Opens Center to Turn Research Into Cash

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State University is opening a storefront center to link researchers, students and entrepreneurs in an effort to turn ideas into marketable products and jobs.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the $2 million Office of Technology Commercialization and Knowledge Transfer opens tomorrow.

The office sits in a busy area off campus that includes restaurants, a book store, a movie theater and other businesses. Video kiosks at the site show discoveries in various fields, such as medicine, agriculture and bioengineering.

OSU President Says University Should Have Asked More Pointed Questions in Football Scandal

President E. Gordon Gee says the Ohio State University should have asked more pointed questions as a memorabilia-for-cash scandal was first coming to light.

The NCAA last month hit Ohio State with a one-year bowl ban and additional penalties for violations that started with eight football players taking thousands of dollars in cash and tattoos. That was in exchange for jerseys, rings and other Buckeyes memorabilia.

Gee tells The Columbus Dispatch that the university has learned to back up its procedures by asking the right questions.

Ohio State AD says NCAA Probe has Cost $800K

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The NCAA investigation into Ohio State's football program has cost the school's athletic department $800,000.

OSU Athletic director Gene Smith confirmed the figure on Wednesday in an email to The Associated Press. The Buckeyes football program has been embroiled in a memorabilia-for-cash scandal that broke late last year and has resulted in coach Jim Tressel losing his job after 10 years. Star quarterback Terrelle Pryor also has left the school.
