Young House in Wilberforce Now National Monument

In 1974, the Col. Young House in Wilberforce, Ohio was named a national landmark. Today, March 25th, 2013, it received an even higher honor; The home now stands as a national monument.

In a closed ceremony, President Barack Obama used executive authority to designate five new national monuments. Using powers given to him under the Antiquities Act of 1906, the President issued protections for 5 "historic or ecologically significant sites around the country" - including the Col. Charles Young House.

Planned Protest Held at Wilberforce University

Several members of the Wilberforce University faculty along with nearly 100 students held a rally Tuesday morning to protest several ongoing issues with the school’s administration. The faculty is asking Wilberforce President Patricia Hardaway to step down and for the Board of Trustees to disband.

Students gathered were chanting, "Hardaway must go, Hardway must go, no Board of Trustees, no Board of Trustees," at the rally, which was held at the school's Alumni Multiplex.

Wilberforce University Officials Answer Student Concerns

Wilberforce University school officials met with students today to address their concerns about the school's alleged mismanagement.

More than three hundred of Wilberforce University's 510 students held a protest on Wednesday and threatened to withdraw from the university and transfer to Central State.

Students say the school is spending down its endowment while also letting the living conditions in the dorms decay.

Harold and Kumar star, Kal Penn visits Wilberforce University to stump for Obama

Actor Kal Penn, best known for starring in the Harold and Kumar movies, visited with students and local Obama for America-Ohio supporters Thursday afternoon at Wilberforce University.

Penn, who actually is considered the president's ambassador to young voters, discussed with the nearly 80 students and Obama supporters gathered in the student union, the choice they have to make in November's election between what he called, "two fundamentally different visions of how to grow the economy while investing in more affordable, higher education."
